I did finally get the dvd recorder to work (at least to play dvds and any shows I had taped to the harddrive) but it will not tape anything new, as it seems to be on a different channel than the cable box, or the tv switching box (hdmi is
cable tv, and the dvr seem to be on the s-vid)
Anyway, we got a dvr from the cable company and that does what I need it to do, along with being able to watch dvds on the old dvd recorder.
