Hi I'm Terry

I'm a new Member.I work for AT&T in Chicago and I have a question right off the bat! Right now I am set up with Dish Network. My dvr reciever is hooked up to the TV upstairs which is not HD.My TV downstairs is HD ready.I'd like to have HD on the TV downstairs.I know I need to purchase an HD reciever, but I"D like to know what kind. Also,I do have an antenna in my attic,so I'd like to use that to recieve my HD,but I think I'll need some sort of splitter.I just need to know how to hook this all up and what cables I will need.I don't want to pay Dish network for HD if I can get it for free.My TV is a Panasonic rear projection TV.NIce meeting everyone.

Welcome to the forum Phoneman. :)

If you want your locals in HD but free, don't bother trying to get a Dish Network HD receiver. If your TV has a built in digital tuner, then all you should be able to do is run your antenna straight into the Dish Network receiver and RF out to the TV. When you want to switch, just turn the receiver off or press the tv/video button. Go into the menu and make sure it's on antenna and let the TV autoprogram in your local HD/SD channels for you.
If by chance it is a HDTV without a digital tuner, then you will need to go to a Circuit City, EBay or some other electronic store and pick up a over the air digital set top box. Then you can run the antenna into it, and come out with your component connections into the TV plus your audio wires. Then you can switch sources on the TV from component to antenna/cable.

Thank you for the info.It will be very helpful. My only other question is dish network is using the coaxiel cable to get to the HD ready tv ,the antenna coaxiel cable is hanging in the breeze in the utility room wall,so I will need some time of splitter won't I to switch back and for between satillite and HD.If so,what kind.

Since the coax is going into the TV from the receiver, then you should be able to go antenna into the receiver and cut the receiver off to receive your locals off the antenna. You shouldn't need a "splitter", you may need a F81 to extend the wire into the receiver. If you have to install an amp, not all splitters pass power and it's not recommended to have a splitter between the pre amp and the power supply.
