I hope there is help for me. I have a Magnavox TV about 6 years old. It has one RF connection and the 3 RCA hook ups on the back. (Red, Yellow, White). I have a satellite box and basic cable that comes in from the wall. The cable goes directly to the back of the satellite then up to the TV. I would like to be able to record off the dish or the Cable. Right not I can only do one or the other and that requires plugging and unplugging wires. I tried an RF modulator, but that did not work. I am sure it is possible. I just cant figure out what I am doing wrong. Thanks for any help.

I did not find exactly what I needed on the hook up guide, but using the guide allowed me to narrow down almost the exact hook up. Thanks! One small Item I do need help with still. Now, using the hook up guide, I have my DVDR ,My Sat.,and my cable hooked up where it shows through my AUX channel when viewing through my DVDR. This allows me to record my regular cable and watch anything I want on cable while I am recording. This is good:) But, anything I record on sat I have to watch while I am recording, not good. :frown: I would like to record on Sat ( on the Aux channel) and then watch the another sat. program (using channel 3) at the same time. Just as I do the cablel channels. Do I need an ABC switch or a splitter. Unfortunatly for me, my local radio shack is ran by the local plumber. You do the math! :headbang: Am I living in a dream world or is my vision possible?

I'm Glad to hear you're almost there!
The only way you can record one satellite channel and watch another is if you have a dual tuner receiver. If you, then I can walk you through the process. If you don't, then you'll either have to give up the dream, or invest in an upgraded receiver.
If you don't know whether your satellite receiver has a dual tuner, give me the make and model of the receiver and I'll let you know.
Best regards,
Jonathan

At this point you would need to upgrade to a receiver with a dual tuner. However they may extend your contract by a year to two as well and may require an upfront fee as well. Just something to keep in mind. :alieneye:

Thank you so much for replying. I can not find the make of my Sat. Model# is NRD513NB. The front panel has DSS on it and the back says Thomas Consumer Electronics. I got the service from from my local cable company oddly enough. I am sure it is not a dual reciever its about 10 years old. Its been a good one but may not be up with the times. Thanks for all your help. I appreciate your website.

Sounds like an off brand of RCA, I think??? DirecTV ???
Is the local cable operational?

Yes cable is operational, but not a big selection of channels. 25 channels. I am thinking your right. Probably an RCA of some sort. Yes, Direct TV. The Sat box has In and out RF and a Sat in that comes straight from the wall.

At least with the cable, you can split it behind the TV and do what you want with very little expense involved.
Just an off the wall thought. :alieneye:

Thanks again for all the help. I may hold out for digital cable. It is supposed to be coming soon. We are only a few years behind the times here  But for now I am pretty happy with the results. I could not have done it with out CableTV.com. Thanks again,... Until next time.
