Have you looked at the the hookup guide for a guide to your general equipment set up? There's one there, just waiting for you. Visit http://www.cabletv.com/hookupguides.htm

Your reply was very fast, thanks! I still have a few questions, what does, over-the mean? Also 2-way, 3-way? Does that mean if you already have a splitter in place? How about modulator? Sorry to be such a dumb-bunny? I am just not tech minded.

Over-the (air) means an over-the-air receiption antenna, often mounted on the roof or a short tower.
2-way=2-way splitter (divides the incoming cable signal to serve 2 outlets).
3-way=3-way splitter (can you guess what this does? )
I don't know whether you have a splitter already, but if you have multiple outlets or TVs the answer is yes.
A modulator is a device that takes audio and video signals from a DVD player and converts it to RF signals that can directly feed the antenna connection on a TV set.
Not to worry about not being technically hip. That one of the reasons we set up this forum!
If you would describe your hook-up now perhaps we can help with some remote troubleshooting. (i.e., "the cable connection at the wall goes to the 'cable in' on the converter; the 'TV out' on the converter goes to ... and so on).
Best,
Jonathan

Thanks for understanding, I am going to print out the diagram from the one I think will work. I will work on it and then if I have more problems I will be back in touch. Thanks! I am glad to know I am not the only one with hookup problems.

Ok, I tried the diagram, course it is simple compared to the many cables and plugs behind my TV set, I still can't get it to do what I want it to. I want to be able to record one show and watch another. I mean a dvd recorder is useless if you have to watch the program too! Can you give me some more specific help. Is it not possible? I see several other posters are having the same problem. Thanks!!

Here's what you need to do: Provide me a list of each item of equipment you want to connect, from the box to the TV, with manufacturer and model numbers for each one. A day or two later I'll post a hook-up guide for your set up.
Away we goooooooooooooooooo............

I have a cable converter box, Comcast cable, Motorola brand. I can't find a model number on it, but it doesn't have an S-video outlet. The VCR is Sylvania 6260-VF. Right now it won't play a tape at all, just a blue screen. It was able to record before I started trying to get the DVD recorder to record. The DVD recorder is Cyberhome DVR 1600. It won't record any show unless you are watching it, and have the tv on. I would love to record some movies from HBO. The home theatre system is ONKYO-HT-R530, no problems there. The TV is RCA projection P52927. Yeah, I know its too much stuff,;) Looking forward to getting everything working properly. Hey, can I record one show on the DVD recorder and one on the VCR when we get it all set up right? Thanks!!

Hi, have you had time to check out my hookup problem? I had not heard from you. Still wishing I could record some movies.
