My box this morning shows a "boot" message on the LED. No power light. Nothing else is functional. Cable company has been busy for over 2 hours now. Cant find the manual, Scientific Atlanta web site on this is not helpful.

Anyone know how?

It's likely given the "boot" message AND the fact that you can't get through to your cable operator that there's a headend problem related to the converter controller.

Cable TV headends (where the channels originate) have computer controllers that authorize and deauthorize converters. They also upload new firmware code to the boxes. It may be that there was an upload problem with new firmware (that's my best guess right now).

Who is your cable operator, and in what city are they locally based. With this information, I may be able to get a more informative answer to you.

Thanks for the quick response.

Cablevision on Long Island, NY. I think they are based in Ronkonkama. Part of the Optimum Network.

Gerry:

I've posted a query on the cable engineering list. I hope to have an answer soon.

By the way, now you know why I ask for people to disclose the name of their cable operator and city when they sign on to the Forum!

I hope to post a reply within an hour. Perhaps the problem will be cleared by then.

Gerry, and others...

I've just learned that Scientific Atlanta did a software update to some/many headend controllers around the country yesterday, and some of the headend box controllers (not just in N.Y.) experienced problems. It's about 99.999% certain that this is the issue causing your BOOT message.

SA jumps on these problems almost instantly. I expect that they're working on the NY issue right now.
