HDTV/DVR/non-HD DVD/VHS combo/audio

Here is my combo....if there is already a hook up guide please point me to the one to follow, otherwise I would really appreciate a "walk-through" on how to hook this up.....

Olevia 232V HDTV (HDMI cable)
Motorolla DVR - DCT 3416 (from Comcast)
Samsung (non-hd) DVD/VHS combo - V2000
Aiwa NSX-MT920 surround stereo system

If there is something extra that I need to do to be able to watch one program and record another with DVR please include that step.


BTW....I had this whole system set up with digital cable via comcast - no HD or DVR - I have left the connections in tact on the back of the DVD/VHS combo, so if there is a simple way to transfer to the the NEW HDTV and DVR that would help a lot.

Take a look at hookup41.pdf (http://cabletv.com/tech-questions-answers/4006-dvr-box-hdtv-dvd-vcr-2.html). It's the guide that's closest to your set up. Give it a try and report back. If that's not going to work for you, we'll cobble something together.

DVD only which has component video out, audio out (in addition there are two digital audio out (coaxiial and optical) and an s-video out. the books says to use the component OR s video - not both

the other side of the machine has dvd/vcr - this has a in & out option

based on the #41 hook-up it indicates component out from dvr to component in on the dvd, then component out on dvd to component in on hdtv.....I don't have a component in option.....which way to i go...

god....i hope this makes sense....

I looked at the manual for the V-2000 (I've attached it to this post). Since the only outputs for the DVD&VCR are RF (coax) or Line (RCA), your options are fairly limited.

I'd try the following:

1. Connect the Line Out connections (see manual page 6, item 3) to the Line In connections on your TV set (you'll select line input on the TV when you want to watch the DVD/VCR).

2. Try connecting the Line In connections (see manual page 6, item 4) to the matching output connections on the cable converter. Keep the HDMI connections between the converter and HDTV in place. If you are able to watch the TV *and* record the same channel from the converter, great. If not, try step 3...

3. Forget the RCA connections at item 4, and in place connect a coax cable from the "TO TV" output of the convert to the "IN FROM ANT." connector (see manual page 6, item 1) on your DVD/VCR.

i am struggling with the dvd/vcr......i guess i need to know one side at a time....with the dvd side, where i have the option of using the component outlets.....do i run those directly from the dvd player to the tv? bypassing the dvr box?

when i tried that and selected "component" source on the tv it said no signal....what am i doing wrong with this part?

If you do, you won't be able to record what's coming off the cable converter. It would be for playback, only.

or is there a cheap dvd-r that you would recommend ( don't care about vcr's anymore?

My next try would be to use the outputs on the right side (DVD only) to hook up to your HDTV. The component video connections should work on that side. Don't forget to also hookup the audio L/R outputs to the TV.

i hooked up the component connects (blue/red/green) and the audio (these were the ones that comcast gave me....they should work?)

i selected "interface dvd" from the input menu on the tv but can't get the picture to show on the tv....what am i doing wrong?
