Bright House Networks raising cable rates in March - UPDATED

Bright House Networks said today it will raise the monthly cost of standard cable service by 4.7 percent in March, an increase the cable provider attributed to rising programming costs.

Standard cable customers will see their rates go from $52.99 to $55.49 a month. The bills for digital cable subscribers will rise by 5.8 percent, from $59.99 to $63.49.

“We have worked really hard to keep them as low as we can,” said Bright House spokeswoman Sara Brady. “... Our expenses are being increased, and we have to manage that somehow.”

Well, I downgraded my service to 7mbs RR, CablePhone (RR/Phone Combo $59.99), & Standard Cable (at $34.95) ... I tried to keep the $99.00 Triple Play Bundle but BrightHouse wouldn't allow me to renew the package (so I downgraded to Standard Cable). --- My download speeds are higher with the 7mbs service than it was with the 10/2 (via Speedtest.Net), though it may be due to older wiring within my home).

I won't miss the Digital Tier much ... Science Channel (ch.100) and Fox Business News were the only Digital Channels I tuned in to with my previous service.

Hopefully, BrightHouse will remain aggressive with their individual pricing with customers (who haggle for a better price) in order to remain competitive with Verizon, though I'll be staying away from them (VZ) due to their billing issues).
