SCTE CEO Clark Departs

John Clark Out After 10 Years; Nelson Named Interim Replacement
By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 6/30/2008 5:41:00 PM

After 10 years at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, John Clark is leaving the professional association as president and CEO, the SCTE announced Monday.

The SCTE said Clark is leaving his position effective Friday, July 4, “to pursue other interests.” Marv Nelson, SCTE vice president of professional development, will assume the role of interim president and CEO effective immediately.

The news comes just days after the SCTE wrapped up its flagship annual event, Cable-Tec Expo, in Philadelphia last week with 11,000 attendees.

“We thank John for all he has done for SCTE after entering into the important leadership role of president 10 years ago, and we wish him well in his new pursuits,” said SCTE chairman Tom Gorman, who is Charter Communications’ vice president of field operations.

The association has formed a search committee to find a replacement, chaired by Cisco Systems’ Frank Eichenlaub, western vice chair of the SCTE board.

Clark served as president since 1998 and added the CEO title in 2000. Prior to joining SCTE, Clark was executive vice president for the Tele-TV programming joint venture of Bell Atlantic, Nynex Corp. and Pacific Telesis Group, and held senior positions at Crown Media Holdings and cable operator Cencom Cable Associates.

SCTE, founded in 1969 and based in Exton, Pa., counts more than 14,000 members and 68 chapters and meeting groups. The association develops technical specifications supporting the cable telecommunications industry, provides professional certification and hosts seminars and conferences.
