NCTA Sets ‘Cable Connections Spring’ For Next April

Cable Show ’09 Dates Shifted Forward A Few Days

Those headed to next year’s Cable Show will have to adjust their calendars slightly.

The Cable Show ’09 will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the nation’s capital from April 1-3, 2009. The show was originally scheduled there from April 5-8.

Cable Show ’09, featuring Insight Communications vice chairman and CEO Michael Willner and TV One president and CEO Johnathan Rodgers as co-chairs, will serve as the anchor for the first-ever “Cable Connections Spring,” nearly a week of cable industry-related activities, meetings, events and conferences that will be held in conjunction with the trade show. All in, Cable Connection Spring will span from April 1-6.

Groups currently scheduled to stage events during Cable Connection Spring include CableLabs, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing, the Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau, Women in Cable Telecommunications, the National Association of Multi-ethnicity in Communications, Cable Positive and the Cable Pioneers. The schedules for those events are still being worked on, according to NCTA spokesman Brian Dietz.

Sources indicate that NCTA moved Cable Show ’09 up a few days because of several factors: Congress will likely not be in session at that time and the industry group was hoping for a presence at the show from lawmakers under the new administration; its proximity to the Easter holiday as Holy Thursday falls on April 9 next year; and cherry blossom season, a major tourist attraction.

Dietz would not specifically address the reason for the schedule revise, other than to say the change was made for “a variety of reasons.”

He did say that NCTA has made arrangements to block out adequate hotel room accommodations for Cable Connections Spring.
