Smile Can the cable TV be isntalled in this special way when they install it?

Hello, I'm glad I found this website. I am planning on having Comcast digital cable installed. The house it's being installed into already has TV distributed to all the TV's in the house it has a splitter setup with amplifiers on it and currently distributes broadcast TV. The house used to have cable and there is a cable wire still in the house just turn off at the pole. It's a house that been in the family and the splitter and amplifier setup has provided analog cable in to the TV's in the past. I was thinking since the wire and the splitter are both in the basement can I tell the guy to just plug the wire into the splitter and unplug the antenna from the splitter and switch the cable TV with it? I will save him a lot installation of time just switching the antenna wire in the splitter with the cable and get the cable in every room I was planning on having it in. I'm asking this because I didn't know if they had to run all new wires.

Also in the past the cable company told me it was required that I have boxes on all my TV's even the cable ready ones I only wanted the basic channels on. I only really want the extra channels on my big screen TV. So can they put the cable in without set top boxes on all the TV's since I have cable ready TV's in all the rooms of my house and only want the basic channels on them without them getting upset I'm not renting more converter boxes then the one for my big screen if I don't have to to just receive basic cable on the others seems dumb and too costly and a waste of money for me.

Your advice would be appreciated.

Cool Depends

I read thru your post briefly and want to answer although im a lil short on time. I cant see why u HAVE to have a conv box. u only need a set top box for certain levels of packages(ie digital) u want analog sinple broadcast cable..u shouldnt need a box.
However coble cos and the FCC is taking away analog channels more and more until they r all gone in a cpl years time
second..when u get your install dont let the tech tell YOU whwere u want stuff..u tell HIM. the cut corners a lot..presssed for time and in some instances u get stuck with a contractor who cares even less. it doesnt seem like u r asking for outlets in weird places and custom-type setup so u should be fine..hope this helps some

Im an installer for a cable co by the way

Talking Thank you so much!

Yes it should be no problem. Well you see, I figured by him just plugging the wire into the amplifier splitter setup that was already there and working he had to run no outlets or cables he would just turn on that wire going into the basement from the pole plug it into the splitter and then simply connecting the digital cable box to my TV which saves him a lot of installation time and effort. Plus the way things are now each room has its own cable wire not an outlet in the wall which is good for me because it makes it easier for me to move the TV's around in the rooms.

I will say this about the amp, if it's NOT needed DO NOT use it. If the signal is a little low, then all you are doing is amplifing the noise. If it's over 150', I would consider using RG11 to reduce the lost of the signal.
Is all of your wires homeruns or run in series? Running in series is not good and reduces your signal quality quickly.

No, Everything is independent coming off the splitter

No, everything is independent coming off the splitter and the picture was fine years ago when there was cable on the tv's through that setup. I jsut simply want to knwo if they would kick a fit if I told them to to plug the wire in there when they install the digital cable on that 29.95 a month deal for a year. Since I know the setup up works with cable and would save them time running wires to the tv and save me isntallation costs sicne they only install one outlt and tv with that. Thats all.
