Cable One working on power

The signal for Cable One in Gulfport and Long Beach went out for the Bears-Seahawks game Sunday, causing thousands of forward-thinking Saints fans' hearts to temporarily seize.

Cable One district supervisor Jim Perry said it was the result of a power failure and that Cable One is working to make sure that does not happen this weekend, when the Saints travel to the Windy City for the NFC championship game.

When commercial power fails, Perry said there is an automatic switch on their generators that should be triggered. That did not happen Sunday.

"We've got the people who installed the generator up here today going over it," Perry said Tuesday morning.

Comedy Central not on the horizon - Despite boasting two of the most popular and talked-about shows on cable television right now - "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" - Comedy Central is and has been for some time completely unavailable to Cable One Gulfport and Long Beach subscribers.

Jim Perry, district supervisor for Cable One, said the reason for that is an ongoing contract negotiation with Viacom, Comedy Central's parent company.

Perry said the reason Comedy Central is available in other Cable One areas is because Cable One bought companies that already carried the channel and had contracts in place.

"Each channel has a contract," Perry said. "We haven't had it on here. Until that negotiation gets done, it's not going to be on. I don't know when it's going to be."

Cable One does carry most of Viacom's other channels, such as MTV, CMT, VH1, Spike TV, BET and TV Land.
