| WDSU back on Cable One Switch due to WPMI fadeouts By SCOTT HAWKINS After complaints of a weak signal from Mobile NBC affiliate WPMI, Cable One has switched back to New Orleans NBC affiliate WDSU. Gulfport/Long Beach Cable One General Manager Jim Perry said Cable One switched back to WDSU at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Cable One originally switched to WPMI from WDSU last December after months of a bad signal due to Hurricane Katrina damage to WDSU's transmitter. But in recent weeks the signal from WPMI has been a problem, frequently fading in and out. The problem with WPMI's signal is partially due to the 65-mile distance between the station's transmitter and Cable One and issues with digital and analog incompatibility, Perry said. Wednesday morning, WPMI General Manager Bob Franklin said his station had an agreement to install a direct fiber link to Cable One to improve the feed into South Mississippi. When contacted Thursday, Franklin said he was unaware Cable One had switched back to WDSU in Harrison County. "We'd like quality to be better from WDSU but think it is better to have a sparkle or two than to have a fade out," Perry said. "Until we get the final solution when WDSU gets back up later in the year, we will continue to carry WDSU in Harrison County and WPMI in Jackson County."
