As Lafayette Utilities System officials have unveiled information about fiber prices and services this month, its main competitors have been keeping an close eye on the developments.

However, both Cox Communications and AT&T/ BellSouth officials said they weren't ready to announce whether they plan to offer any new marketing or promotions to deal with a new competitor.

"I would say, right off the bat, that we are pleased that the customers have a variety of options for all entertainment and communication needs," said Cox spokesman Will Henson. "I am confident that we can be competitive. We compete every day in all cities. We're confident that Cox provides the better value in terms of being more innovative and having more comprehensive service."
