AT&T (formerly SBC) is rolling out cable television service under the Project Lightspeed banner. They don't call it cable TV service, but if it looks like a duck...

Bresnan Communicaitons is a well known cable opeator

Brighthouse is the seventh largest U.S. cable operator. With the downfall of Adelphia, it may now be the sixth largest cable operator.

CableOne, owned by Post Newsweek, is the tenth largest U.S. cable operator with about 700,000 subscribers (as of 9/2005).

Cablevision is the sixth largest cable operator in the U.S., and it owns the Madison Square Gardens in NYC.

Charter is the fourth largest cable operator in the U.S. As of 9/2005 it had nearly 6.0 million subscribers. Its largest shareholder is Paul Allen (of Microsoft fame).

Comcast is the largest cable operator in the U.S. As of the closing of the Adelphia purchase on 7/31/06, Comcast had nearly 23.3 million direct subscribers, and another 3.5 million subscribers in various partnerships.

Cox Cable, based in Atlanta, is the third largest cable operator in the U.S. As of 9/2005 it had nearly 6.4 million subscribers.

Insight, with about 1.3 million U.S. cable subscribers (as of 9/2005), is the ninth largest cable operator.

Mediacom is the eighth largest cable operator.

Time Warner Cable is the second largest cable operator in the U.S. With the addition of the Adelphia systems on 7/31/06, TWC had nearly 14.4 million subscribers with 27.6 million homes passed. Then again, it also has AOL.

FiOS is Verizon's entry (or is that reentry) project into cable televison service.

Regardless of what AT&T says, IPTV isn't different from cable TV; it's merely a transmission protocol to move 1s and 0s to the subscriber. So says a federal court ruling for Connecticut!
