Insight Communications has awarded $13,000 in college scholarships to 10 local students this year, including $4,000 to the top winner.

Seventy students submitted applications for $1,000 scholarships. Insight employees from the Florence office reviewed the applications. The 10 chosen (with their high school and college they will be attending) were:

Britaney Knapp, Covington Latin High, Thomas More College

Megan Mullins, Lloyd Memorial High, Northern Kentucky University

Ian Witt, Scott High, NKU

Isaac Schoultheis, Dayton High, NKU

Rebekah Saylor, Grant County High, NKU

Heather Oehler, Newport High, NKU

Corey Esmeier, Covington Catholic High, Thomas More

Elizabeth Atkins, Newport High, NKU

Emily Burtner, Dixie Heights High, NKU

Meryl Sams, Dixie Heights High, NKU

From those 10, Insight picked one to receive an additional $3,000. That went to Sams, who plans to study nursing at NKU and volunteers at local hospitals, health-care facilities, educational institutions and area organizations, such as the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission.

This is the 22nd year the college scholarship program has supported Northern Kentucky students who plan to attend college in Northern Kentucky. More than $125,000 in scholarships has been awarded in that time.

Insight is the ninth-largest cable operator in the United States with approximately 1.4 million customers in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
