Aurora Cable To Enhance Network Performance

Aurora Cable Internet is accelerating the deployment of advanced new television, cable phone, fibre and high-speed Internet access to both commercial and residential customers.

The company has deployed Juniper Networks M120 Multiservice Edge Router, to run all traffic at the core of Aurora's Internet and IP-based telephony network, handling routing, filtering, and privacy and security responsibilities.

Fueled by the high-capacity and enhanced capabilities of the M120, Aurora is planning to expand its Internet offerings to include services such as IP multi-cast video, the company has announced.

"As a local service provider, we have built a loyal customer base by offering better and more personalized service than our larger competitors," Bryan Challenger, Chief Technology Officer with Aurora Cable, said in a release. "Not surprisingly our customers have come to expect more from us, so we cannot afford to have downtime or performance issues. The Juniper Networks M120 gives us the performance, reliability and rich features needed to meet those service expectations."

Aurora Cable provides services in the Aurora, Oak Ridges and Northern Richmond Hill areas north of Toronto. Previous carrier-class infrastructure solutions used by Aurora were more difficult to maintain, the company describes, and had numerous bugs that had to be dealt with on a frequent basis.

"By adding the M120, not only has our stability and performance improved, but so too have the response times of the core network," Challenger added. "We have also added new capabilities, like bandwidth monitoring, which allows us to more effectively leverage our network resources and offers us further room to grow our business."

The M120 Multiservice Edge Router is the newest addition to the Juniper Networks M-series product family. The M120 delivers support for 128 Gigabit Ethernet subscriber ports, with 10 Gigabit Ethernet or OC-192 uplink capability in an affordable, compact form factor.

In the past few years, Aurora Cable has invested $5 million in fiber throughout the Aurora and Oak Ridges regions, enabling it to transmit television and Internet signals at up to 9 megabits-per-second download speed.
