Hook up problems

I have:
Explorer 3250 HD Box
Toshiba RD-XS 34SC DVD Recorder
LG 42 " Plasma 42PC3D
I tried Hook up # 26 but could not play any HD channels from the 3250.
Went to the 'phone suggestion from Toshiba. ie cableto HD box out to Toshiba out to HDTV.
2 problems.
1) Degradation of picture
2) Can not watch one channel while recording another
