A Quebec Superior Court judge has thrown out Quebecor Media Inc.'s allegations that former Vidéotron Ltée chief executive officer Claude Chagnon improperly profited from insider trading nearly a decade ago.

Mr. Justice Brian Riordan ruled this week that Quebecor Media and its subsidiary Vidéotron failed to demonstrate conclusively that Mr. Chagnon benefited from insider knowledge about a pending takeover offer for Vidéotron from Toronto-based rival Rogers Communications Inc. RCI.A-T

"Obviously, there is a sense of relief," Mr. Chagnon said. "It's all well and good to be certain in one's mind that one has acted correctly, but there was always that element of uncertainty because this matter was before the courts."
