I received a nice email from new member WINNMARY asking for some hook-up help with her cable box, DVD player, VCR, and TV.
Here's her post:

hi jonathan, i'm new to forums and i don't know how the first forum page works. i don't know how to add a new posting...and what is a thread? how do i search for a topic? the info i am looking for right now is the hookup instructions for a tv, vcr, dvd, and a cable box using an a/b switch. the cable installer had told me that if i hookup the a/b switch i could watch one channel and record another at the same time. he said that the only restriction was that i could not record and watch an analog channel or record and watch a digital channel. my daughter (21y) live together and we have similar tastes in tv shows. sometimes we watch a particular show early but because another show is on at the same time we have to wait until later to watch the show we missed. by the way, what is a digital or analog channel? thanks for the opportunity to learn new things and to have a resource to go to for help. it is not always easy to get store clerks to help you because they are busy and sometimes they just don't know how to help you. have a good day, jonathan. winnie (do i sign at the end of my emails or posts?)

Because of the type of equipment she has (VCR=Goldstar CD970CMC; DVD=Hitachi DV-P754U; TV=Panasonic CT27E13), I was able to craft a hook-up guide that does not require the use of an A/B switch. That hook-up guide is attached.
