Hi Tom: Welcome to the Forum. Yes, it can be done, and with what youv'e told me I've created a hook-up diagram that does what you want, plus provides for maximum recording/playback options (including over-the-air antenna coverage).

Give this a try and let us know how it works for you!

Best regards,

Jonathan Kramer

Thanks for the diagram....it has got me working but I am not sure I quite have it right......my sat has suround sound thus more sound wires, seems like each component has a s vid into the av unit....is this needed? also can I keep the vcr hooked up some Way? I may need a revised map.

Thanks again

Tom,

The reason for taking the audio off of the TV rather than the satellite receiver is that whatever you're watching is being amplified. Hooking the audio out of the satellite receiver, only, restricts you. On the other hand, if your amplifier has multiple inputs, then hook it up as per the diagram, but also add a second input to your amplifer from the output of the satellite receiver. Then you'll have to switch inputs to the receiver depending on whether you're watching the satellite or the DVDr.
