I am looking for an explanation of how to hook up my vcr and dvd player to my tv. My tv has only a coaxial hook-up and my Curtis DVD player's hook-up required me to purchase a RF modulator. So, now I have my DVD player hooked up to my TV, but I'm not sure how to hook up the VCR with the DVD and TV.
Please explain what/how I need to do this so that all 3 work together. Obviously I am not very "up" on electronic stuff and I will greatly appreciate a reply as soon as possible.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sandy:

I've attached two diagrams to this post. One of them will likely be the way you'll want to hook everything up. All of the required parts, including the "A/B" input switch should be available at a local Radio Shack store.

Please let me know if this helps you, and if now, come back with more questions!

Best,

Jonathan Kramer

tv/dvd/vcr hook up

Jonathan,

I do not have a cable box.
Do I still need the A/B splitter, and go according to the diagram for the tv with only the cable input?

Yes, Sandy, I suspect you do. You've said you must use an RF modulator connected to the output of your DVD. Most every VCR only has one RF input. That's why the A/B switch (not splitter) is likely to be required.

Question: Does your DVD have an RF input. I suspect not, but it's worth asking.

dvd/vcr/tv hookup

Jonathan,
there is only the RF 'input' on the DVD player, but there is an 'S-video' input as well as 'video out' open connections, digital out, audio out (R/L) and video.

My VCR has ANT IN/ANT OUT, audio and video in and out.

What now?

Sandy, let me try to short-circuit this by asking you for the manufacturer and model number of your DVD player.

From your posting, it may well be that you CAN hook up everything without using the A/B switch. The hookup would be to connect your antenna to the RF input of the DVD player; the output of the DVD to the modulator; the output of the modulator to the input of the VCR; and the output of the VCR to the input of the TV. This would allow you to record an off-the-air channel or a DVR on the VCR, and playback the DVD and VCR on the TV.

Again, with the manufacturer and model number of the DVD I can give you a better answer.

Best,

Jonathan

Ah, that's just what I needed! I checked a copy of your owner's manual at the Curtis International site.

Sorry, but there's no RF input to your DVD, and there's no RF output either (which is why you need the external modulator).

You'll need to connect the output of the modulator to one side of the A/B
switch, and your antenna cable to the other side of the A/B switch (it doesn't matter which input goes to A or B). The output of the A/B switch goes to the input of your VCR, and the output of the VCR goes to your TV set.

Good luck!

-Jonathan
