Smile Hook up Cable, DVD/VCR, TV

I am trying to hook up my mother's new DVD/VCR. She has a cable box and projection TV. She would however, like to watch one channel while taping another. I have tried every which way to hook this up and have not had any success. Can you help?

Welcome to CableTV.com, dohalloran!

There are at least two basic ways to accomplish your goal for your mother, and neither require the use of an A/B switch.

I've attached two diagrams (hookup17.pdf and hookup18.pdf).

In hookup17, your mom can record any cable channel and watch any other basic cable channel at the same time. In hookup18, your mom can record any cable channel, and watch any other cable channel.

In both bases, most of the time your mom will select the VIDEO/LINE in on her projection TV, but when she wants to watch one thing and record another, she'll select the ANTENNA input on the TV.

You'll need the usual cables, and a good quality 2-way splitter (as your cable operator for one...some are enlightened enough to supply it to you as their subscriber).

Good luck!

Jonathan
