Question mareese

Hello
My name is Marion

I recently subscribed to brighthouse cable network. I have a DVD recorder which I would like to continue using with my cable box. I don't know how. I'm hoping there is a simple solution for this.

Welcome!

If you'll respond to this message with the make and model of your DVD recorder, and the make and model of the Brighthouse cable converter I'm sure we'll be able to get you going.

Jonathan

Hi Marion:

Attached to this posting is a simple hook-up diagram to connect your LiteON, cable box, and TV. Since I don't know whether your TV set has an S-video input, I've shown two ways to connect the ouput of the LiteON to the TV. You can hook up one or both ways depending on what you want.

The hook-up allows you to record something on the DVDr from the cable box while watching another non-scrambled channel on your TV set.

Best of luck,

Jonathan

Marion, that's good news. Just forget about the video line from the LITEON to the TV, and use the S-video instead. When using the S-video line, you'll still need the audio L/R connections using RCA plugs.

Hi Jonathan,
Part of the reason I don't post is that i am new to this and i am not quite sure how to do it .
I have still been unsuccessful in hooking up my toshiba DVR - HD 3500 box and LG 42 Plasma, however I am going to try Hook-up # 26.

Charlie, if you get really stuck, let me know. Basically, the hookup is straight-forward, but then again I'm an expert.

Hi Jonathan,
I tried Hook up #26 with the following results
1) degradition of picture ( Toshiba is not HD )
2) Cannot record one channel while watching another .

Then tried the schematic from Scientific Atlanta showing VCR connection.
1) component out from 3250 to HDTV
2) From 3250 video and audio ( RCA ) to DVD rec
3) From DVD rec video and audio ( RCA ) to HDTV
4)Cable in to 3250

This actally works quite well . Picture is excellent but still cannot Record on one while watching another. Bummer!!
I spoke to Cable techie ( very patient and helpful) , but he suggests it may not be possible to do what i want re recording.
Still trying to get my head around Posts an d threads !!

Thanks,
Charlie
