DVDr hook up to Directv HD....anyone?

First post....howdy ya'll. Got what is probably a simple hookup problem, but about throw myself under a bus from frustration.

Got Directv dvr HD receiver

Got Samsung DVDr

Got Samsung HD TV

Goal is to hook up as to be able to record the stuff I record on dvr to dvd.

Seem simple enough so far, yet I tried the diagram 32 to hook up with RF cable to Sat box and to DVDR.....when I connect to DVDr with Sat on a splitter....it wont find the Sat signal. Not sure why not.

I tried all other connection like compoent and s-video....can record sound but no video.

I have another same system in the den but and running all through a AV receiver.....will I need to go that route here?

Any help would be appreciated.
