Time Warner will pay more than $240,000 to 30 Milwaukee-area communities to settle a dispute about past franchise fee payments, under an agreement backed this week by a regional coalition.

Each municipality will have to individually approve the settlement, which will pay amounts ranging from a few hundred dollars to $39,436.

The Regional Telecommunications Commission, representing the southeastern Wisconsin communities, audited Time Warner's franchise fee payments to local governments and said the company had failed to make proper payments.

Time Warner disputed the findings, but the two sides settled in part to avoid further litigation costs, according to a settlement agreement being sent to the communities.
