Telco Looks To Boost FiOS Subs With Movie Package Promo

Verizon Communications launched a subscriber-acquisition program Monday offering new FiOS TV subscribers 90 days of free access to the 45-channel movie package.

FiOS TV subscribers who sign up between June 16 and July 19 will be eligible for Verizon's “Summer Movie Pass,” which includes four free video-on-demand selections and 90 days of free access to its movie package.

The promo comes after Verizon has said it would hike rates on certain FiOS services this quarter. The company has not yet provided details on those price increases.

FiOS’s movie package, normally an additional $14.99 per month, includes channels from Showtime Networks, Starz Entertainment, The Movie Channel, Encore, Sundance Channel and IFC, as well as access to hundreds of VOD titles.

In addition, Verizon will push its home media DVR – which allows up to three other set-tops to view in standard-definition – at the price of an HD DVR for 90 days.

Earlier this month, Verizon announced plans to add more than 60 new channels to the lineup, including at least 25 HD networks.
